Twin City Opera House Investigation

Twin City Opera House

July 10, 2021

McConnelsville, OH

Investigation

Placed in the center of town square, an especially predominant position when the town of McConnelsville, Ohio was in full bloom, the Twin City Opera House seemed to be the focal point and key feature of the small, blue collar town. When the opera house was constructed in the late 1880’s, the town was packed to the brim with factories and mills. The opera house was seen as bringing a certain sense of culture and class to the area, truly allowing this town to blossom into a more mainstream business area and main connection hub to the main cities in Ohio.

Set aside the political uproar over its location, the very building was built atop an old tombstone cutting shop which burnt to the ground and allowed the area to be nicknamed “The Burned District.” This was in bad taste in many locals eyes but the construction continued regardless thanks to some backhanded politicians. The building did house some of the newest features and technological advances of the time, only to fail on opening night! This only added to the legend of the building and the shows; bringing to life the cliche phrase of “The show must go on!” This helped draw in more celebrity guests and bigger name acts.

In the early 1900’s, the building incurred a horrible incident and a fire attempted to return it to the ash from which it was constructed. However, thanks to the local fire crews, they stopped the fire from spreading and causing more damage than it already inflicted. Again, “The show must go on” and the actors and crew utilized half the stage as the auditorium was quickly being rebuilt.

The town grew quickly, which brought in an increased number of tourists and visitors with their shows in the opera house. It seems to be commonplace that this increased population would only bring with it an increased volume of crime and violence. This came to a head with two seperate murders; a local man John Leezer was stabbed to death in the early 1900’s and Marshal Horace Porter who was attacked and shot by an escaped mental patient only to die in the alley behind the opera house from his wounds in 1905.

There were other local legends and lore that followed and survived the ages. thid includes the long-time usher of Everett Miller who worked and practically lived in the opera house for over thirty years! Rumor said that he actually passed away after suffering a heart attack mid-show and refusing to leave until the show was over. As the legend goes, this would be his final show. Lacking any substantiation of the claim, the story remains as only local lore as this was never proven. A similar fate was had by a stagehand, Robert Lowery, who was synonymous with the old opera house during its heyday. His death was rumored to be linked to his supposed affair with leading actress, Victoria. The secretive couple had a daughter, Elizabeth, whose second home was the opera house. Her father was never officially known, but the stories say that her true father was indeed Robert. Tragically, Elizabeth died during her mother’s performance when she was only 10 years old. These whirlwind of stories have become linked to the afterlife and the apparitions of most of these life long (and after) performers, employees, and guests.

Throughout the building, paranormal activity has been said to occur on quite the regular basis. While the building is still in operation, it now brings with it a certain mystique and opens the doors to other stories and experiences rather than just what is on the big screen. Guests have witnessed shadows on the upper balcony while employees have seconded this. They have added that phantom chairs open and close and footsteps lurk in the darkness when there is no one else around. The Catwalk and Backstage areas both include stories of humming, singing, and music while the footsteps and quick moving creaking have been said to be performances continuing on in the afterlife. The Basement has been more of an area of dread as a certain darker figure nicknamed Charlie lurks here. It’s unknown whether he is demonic or just was a bad person during his life. He tends to be drawn to this area, in particular, the tunnel areas which have been sealed off.

Our investigation began a little later than our normal times, so we had more time to spend in the area and outside the building before it got dark. We gained access around 9:45 and were given a great tour by Sam. Sam is a big part of the building and the paranormal group Spirit Chasers. With our more minimal amount of time, we refrained from using any hardwired cameras and only utilized one stationary camera which we left on a tripod. We did use the majority of our equipment including a handheld camera, two recorders, a MEL meter, K2 meter, SB7 Spirit Box, one Rempod, a FLIR thermal image camera, one Phasma Box, an SLS camera, an IR light, and one Ovilus. We began with a Facebook Live stream but then jumped right into investigating the Catwalk area. There were some oddities occurring immediately and we used all of our allotted time up until 3:00 AM.

As we jumped head first into the investigation, the Catwalk area was our starting point. We immediately faced technical malfunctions that occurred as we simply set up a stationary camera and recorder. Eventually, we did get these to work so we feel that there was something causing these issues, more than just user error or technical issues. The moment we took these items out of the area, they seemed to work just fine. We were then drawn to the Backstage area by the sounds of shuffling feet and captured quite a bit of flashlight activity, not to mention a little verbal communication thanks to the Phasma Box. As we continued through the building, the Basement gave us even more flashlight activity and led us to a lengthy conversation thanks to our usage of the pendulum we operated. As we were in the Basement, we heard what sounded like rocks being thrown in our direction. We felt this was more to get our attention rather than injure or harm us. Inside the Auditorium itself, including up on the balcony, we continued to receive flashlight communication and captured a bit of verbal communication as well, telling us to leave and stop.

Most of the evidence captured and our personal experiences during our night inside the opera house was thanks to the flashlights, K2 meter, and pendulum. There were a few moments of verbal communication through voice recorders, the Spirit Box, and the Phasma Box. Some of our physical and personal experiences include the phantom footsteps on the Catwalk and Backstage area, the sound of rocks being thrown toward and around us in the basement, a full body apparition being spotted near the stage, and full bodies seen via the FLIR thermal image camera and SLS camera also in the Basement.

Based on our gathered evidence and personal experiences in the Twin City Opera House, we believe the historical building is an eternal home to both residual and intelligent spirits. The entire building appears to be a haven and playground for the young Elizabeth. She seems to like to play with the colorful devices like the K2 meter, flashlights, and even the pendulum. We were lucky enough to get these tips before we began and utilized all of these methods to communicate with her. As we began on the Catwalk, we believe Elizabeth was just feeling us out and getting to know us. The footsteps, however, may have been “Red Wine” Robert, coming and going back and forth. The Backstage area seemed to be Elizabeth warming up to us and playing with more of our devices, particularly the flashlights and K2 meter here. In the Basement, we thought we’d experience the heaviness and darkness of Charlie, but the atmosphere never seemed to change. We did have some rocks thrown in our direction but our belief is that this was Elizabeth attempting to get our attention after we took away her flashlights. We also learned here, thanks to the pendulum, that she was alone and her friend Sara was not there with her/us. We had later learned that it has been awhile since Charlie has made an appearance. Back up in the Auditorium, including the Balcony, we experienced a little more flashlight activity, thinking that Elizabeth came up with us, but we also captured the name of Johnny here. Eventually, through the EVP, we were told to leave and stop. We noticed a full body here in the doorway near the stage but did not manage to get any evidence of this. There was the sense that some residual activity occurred here as we heard the chairs move and there were some moving dark shadows up on the balcony.

After an analysis of the evidence we gathered from our paranormal investigation of the Twin City Opera House, we have included our recordings, our videos, and our photographs. With everything that we reference, we believe that we captured some type of paranormal activity and otherworldly phenomena. We labeled each of these and our personal experiences during these moments. Please feel free to let us know your thoughts after you listen, watch, and read through all of the evidence we recorded.

As always, you have been warned, some of this is not for the faint of heart and can be slightly explicit:

Setup / Pre-Investigation

After our tour, we began our minimal set up. As we split up, two of us began setting up a stationary camera and recorder in the Catwalk, to no avail as the power was immediately drained from both. We began a walkthrough on Facebook Live but got almost immediately pulled away to jump into our first investigation area.

Photos:

  • Nothing stood out to us here, we simply snapped some exterior pictures before it got too dark during our investigation.

Facebook Live Video 1:

  • We began an introduction but got pulled away as our devices, including the camera and recorder, began losing their battery life right as we started our set up in the Catwalk.

Catwalk

In this wood constructed balcony behind the stage, the stagehands and actors utilized these elevated platforms to create more intricate scenes and elaborate stories. Its’ current function is for mechanical and electrical housing and locations where the main work for these elements occur. It’s been said that this is where “Red Wine” Robert is located and speaks to guests through recorders. Many guests actually bring him bottles of red wine as tributes to him. Footsteps and shadows seem to be commonplace up in this area as it is very active between Robert and the girls, Elizabeth and Sara. These girls tend to play with electronics and, as some people have brought them to enjoy the afterlife, play with their tea sets and dolls.

This is the spot where our electronics initially were drained and refused to turn on, as if something was manipulating them in order to communicate with us. As we attempted to get new batteries and devices to collect evidence, the Ovilus and Facebook Live were both left on and captured words like “Pendant,” “Arrive,” and “Dress” as if referencing a young girl. There were also footsteps which seemed to pace back and forth on the entry to the Catwalk, both as we entered and exited, as if someone was keeping tabs on the guests of their home.

Photos:

  • Even though we captured some voices and sounds here, there was nothing photographed out of the ordinary.

Recording 1 – EVP:

  • As we tried to set up, our camera and recorder both died immediately even though they had fresh and hardwired batteries.
  • Before we began recording here, the Ovilus produced words such as “Pendant,” “Arrive,” and “Dress.”
  • Upon starting this recording, we noted a burning smell.
  • After we asked if anyone with us could give us a sign of their presence, we heard a knocking sound, very quietly, at 8:45.
  • The K2 was suddenly alerted at 13:05.
  • We asked if Elizabeth was with us, and the K2 jumped again at 14:55.
  • The Ovilus produced the word “Filter” just as the K2 meter once again lit at 18:25.

  • We heard two sets of phantom footsteps, at 3:04 then again at 3:08.
  • After some silence, a loud thud could be heard echoing from below us at 9:32.
  • At 10:00, we spotted a shadow moving down the Catwalk away from us.
  • There was another sound of footsteps coming from below us, in the Backstage area around 14:00 so we decided to pack up and follow it downstairs, leaving the stationary camera in place.
  • At about 14:30, the flashlight down below turned on, you could hear us reacting to it offscreen.
  • There were footsteps near the camera at 15:38.

  • A banging sound was then heard at 21:16 and 23:23.
  • The clicking sound reoccurred at 32:48 and 33:08.
  • At 37:00, the banging noise was recorded.

Stationary Video 3:

  • Two clicking sounds were heard back to back at 3:13.
  • The banging noise returned in triplicate at 3:50, 3:54, and 3:59.
  • As some time passed, the bang returned this time followed by a bouncing sound at 6:21.
  • On three more occurrences, the clicking could be heard at 8:08, 8:18, and 8:20.
  • Another bang was captured at 12:22.

Stationary Video 5:

  • There was nothing out of the ordinary captured here.

Backstage

The back of the stage, as you can imagine, was one of the most active locations during the opera house’s heyday. Between actors coming and going during performances to acts taking a bow during a standing ovation, there was so much emotion that was expended here. This is the location that the stagehands would have truly earned their money by changing out sets and costumes on a quick turn around regularly. Even though they were not performers, these stagehands were a large part of the performances and the opera house themselves, and they gave everything they had to this place.

It’s been said that opera houses, auditoriums, and stages have some of the most paranormal activity due to the high amounts of energy given off and left behind; the Twin City Opera House is no exception here. This Backstage area has been known to produce phantom footsteps and shuffling sounds as if someone was dancing or moving back and forth on stage. Humming and music has also been rumored to echo from here, another (possibly residual) phenomena that is understandably left here after an untold amount of performances given here.

We experienced no less than the expected as we were initially drawn here due to footsteps and shuffling sounds. Later on in the night, we heard music and humming, but not at this time. As we were back here, our flashlights and K2 meter were very active. We even set up lights on opposite sides of the area and they were both activated to help answer yes or no questions. The Phasma Box helped us understand some verbal communication as we heard some strange phrases of “Save me” and “Ask that person.” These were possibly residual, the earlier possibly a leftover of a performance and the latter as if someone was asking an usher or stagehand for help. The flashlights did help us come to the conclusion that there was a young girl playing with our toys and when we gave them the ability to speak they asked who we were and even repeated the word “Flashlight.”

Photos:

  • We didn’t capture any paranormal pictures, but we did attach a few screen captures of the flashlights jumping on throughout.

Recording 1 – EVP:

  • This EVP session quickly transitioned into a flashlight session where we utilized the flashlights and turned them on and off to answer yes and no questions.
  • Before we even began recording, the flashlight turned on as we entered the stage.
  • We started by asking if they could turn the light all the way off, and at :06, it shut off but back on at :19.
  • At :23, the flashlight on the opposite side of the stage lit.
  • After we asked if they could turn the lights off, both flashlights turned off at 1:05 then flickered on and off at 1:20.
  • Both lights once again turned on at 2:00.
  • We asked if they could turn both lights off but only the light across the room turned off at 3:10 so we asked if they could turn the other light off as well. At 3:45, the flashlight closer to us actually got brighter.
  • The light across the room then flashed on and off at 3:50.
  • At about 4:51, that same light across the room turned on after we explained that if they turned that light on, it meant yes.
  • We continued to explain that if they turned that light back off that we could ask them yes and no questions, and at 6:08, it turned off.
  • After some silence and no activity, we asked if there was anyone with us, and at 7:30, the light jumped back on prompting us to attempt some Phasma Box communication.

Recording 2 – Phasma Box:

  • Before we began, the light turned back off.
  • We asked if they were a young girl, and at :30, the light across the room turned on.
  • At :40, we heard “Save me” followed by “talk to that person” at :53.

Recording 3 – Phasma Box:

  • A question of “Who are you?” was heard at :04.
  • We again explained that if they wanted us to ask questions, that they had to turn the light off. At :28, we recorded “Questions.”
  • An odd phrase of “Cut to black” was heard at :44, possibly in reference to a stagehand term, just as the light turned off at :53.
  • “I didn’t want to” was then captured at 1:02, as if in reference to turning the light off.

Recording 4 – Phasma Box:

  • We asked them if they were in the middle of performing and heard “Still” at :13.
  • A question of “Who is that?” was captured at :32.
  • After asking if they could tell us their name, we recorded “I’ll show you” at :45 following the light across the room turning on at 1:10.
  • The word “Flashlight” was then recorded at 1:15.

Recording 5 – Phasma Box:

  • We attempted to get them to utilize other devices and explained to them that there are other things they can play with, just as the K2 meter lit and the flashlight on the other side of the room turned off at :08.
  • The light turned back on at :50 so we asked if they could make a sound to which we heard “You don’t want to know who this is” at 1:03.
  • “Give it up” was then captured at 1:20 as we continued to ask questions.
  • After we told them that none of the tools would hurt them, we heard “He’s controlling” at 1:40 followed by heavy footsteps and the light turning off at 1:44.

Recording 6 – Phasma Box:

  • A quick question of “What?” was heard at :02 followed by Dan’s name being called out at :08.
  • We asked if they could again touch the green light to which we heard “We tried to” at :13.
  • As a flashlight flickered, we captured “What the…” at :48 followed by “He’s out” at :56.
  • We discussed if the Rempod was on and working, and at 1:06, as if responding to us, we heard “It’s not working” just as the flashlight went off at 1:10.

Recording 7 – Phasma Box:

  • We discussed that we thought we heard soft voices under the clutter of the Phasma Box and, at :15, the flashlight turned on.
  • After we asked if they liked the light the flashlight makes, we captured “Yup” at :40.
  • Talking amongst ourselves, discussing how we thought no one wanted to talk to us anymore, the flashlight turned off at 1:40.
  • “Daniel” was then heard at 1:56.

Recording 8 – Phasma Box:

  • The light flickered on and off just at the start of this clip, followed by the phrase “It’s a light” at :20 after we asked if they like the light the flashlight gives off.
  • At 1:18, we heard a whistle in person, but it did not translate on the recording, however, we did hear a command of “Leave.”
  • The word “Tunnel” was then captured at 1:20, which is relevant due to the tunnels below the opera house, and the entity known as Charlie which resides there.
  • As we discussed the whistle, we recorded a phrase supposedly owning up to it at 1:25 of “It’s me” just as the light shut off at 1:36.

Recording 9 – Phasma Box:

  • An odd phrase of “Need a volunteer” was captured at :04. This seemed out of place until we found out that they did have traveling magician acts here.
  • We then asked if there was a magician here with us, and at :18, the flashlight on the opposite side of the room turned on.
  • The word “Frazzled” was then heard at :40 as if they were confused.
  • “Argue” was recorded, unprompted, at :49.
  • Referring to the flashlights, we asked if they were looking for a way to impress us, and at 1:40, “I don’t know you” was captured.
  • At 1:46, we heard “I don’t like playing” right before we packed up to leave the area.

Facebook Live Video:

  • The flashlight turned on as we entered the stage.
  • We asked if they could turn the light off, and at :12, it shut off but turned back on at :25.
  • At :29, the flashlight on the opposite side of the stage lit.
  • We asked if they could turn the lights off, both flashlights turned off at 1:11 then on and off at 1:26.
  • Both lights turned on at 2:06.
  • We asked if they could turn both lights off, only the light across the room turned off at 3:16. We then asked if they could turn the other light off and at 3:51, the flashlight closer to us got brighter.
  • The light across the room turned on and off at 3:56.
  • At 4:57, the same light across the room turned on after we explained that if they turned that light on, it meant yes.
  • We explained that if they turned that light back off that we could ask them yes and no questions, and at 6:14, it turned off.
  • After some silence, we asked if there was anyone with us, and at 7:36, the light turned on prompting us to attempt some Phasma Box communication.
  • Before we began utilizing the Phasma Box, around 8:50, the light turned back off.
  • We asked if they were a young girl, and at 10:10, the light across the room turned on.

  • The word “Flashlight” was recorded at 13:00.
  • We attempted to get them to use other devices and told them that there are other things they can play with, just then the K2 meter lit and the flashlight on the other side of the room turned off at 13:38.
  • The light turned on at 14:20 so we asked if they could make a sound and we heard “You don’t want to know who this is” at 14:33.
  • “Give it up” was captured at 14:50 as we asked more questions.

  • At 24:36, we heard “I don’t like playing” before we moved on.

Basement

The sprawling Basement area is through a sub basement and some old school weighted steel doors. The old dirt floor and wooden steps show the original condition of the old unfinished area and have really only been altered over time to allow for new supports and updated mechanical and electrical features. There are doorways and hallways which lead in multiple directions, connecting some of the neighboring properties utilizing the old tunnels. The majority of the old and original tunnels have been sealed up for safety.

There is said to be a dark entity in this area, nicknamed Charlie. Charlie is seen as a thick, black mass moving through the area and will actually attack any of those who seem more comfortable and confident in the building. He has been rumored to growl and hiss at visitors and absorb all of the light and energy in the room, leaving it feeling heavier and darker. Luckily, we have been told that Charlie has not made his presence known in quite some time, and it’s more the girls who congregate down here, especially near Sara’s mothers’ rocking chair, which appeared out of nowhere one day.

As we explored this area a little, we sat in a circle with eyes in every direction, and spread flashlights and the K2 meter around the room. The first flashlight was next to our group, the second flashlight was set across the room next to the rocking chair, and the K2 meter was laid in the center of our group. We heard some odd noises and saw strange lights throughout our time here but debunked some noises down the hallway as dripping water and a moving green light as a light bouncing down an intersecting hallway. However, we did capture some incredible flashlight activity, the most intriguing was the moment we asked them to turn off one light, and run to turn on the next; and we captured this moment on camera! We also recorded a moment where there was a cold figure standing just outside of our group and an SLS shot of the moment someone appeared to be moving our pendulum. Speaking of, this pendulum is where we did manage to communicate quite a bit, and how we learned it was only Elizabeth who was with us (not Sara) and that she had been with us all night.

Photos:

  • In this area, we didn’t capture much on a regular flash camera, but we did take photos utilizing our FLIR thermal camera and the SLS camera. This first image shows what appears to be a figure touching the flashlight through the SLS camera.

  • This second image shows, through the SLS camera, what looks like a figure playing with the pendulum as we were getting responses.

  • Below is a screen capture of a moment when the pendulum was moving, answering questions for us, and below the pendulum, the K2 meter jumped on.

  • The last photo is a FLIR thermal image which shows a figure behind Julez just after the sound of a rock being thrown or footsteps occurring behind her.

Recorder 1 – EVP (Via Recorder #1):

  • At about 1:32, we heard a heavy breathing in person (and the second recorder) but not through this recorder.

Recorder 2 – EVP (Via Recorder #1):

  • Prior to beginning this recording, as we were listening back to the first recording in person, Dan’s back was touched and the light nearest our group turned on then back off.
  • At :52, the flashlight closest to us turned on, followed by the flashlight near the rocking chair across the room jumped on at 1:13.
  • We asked if they could turn the lights off, and at 1:42, both lights shut off.
  • After we challenged them to make a louder noise than us, at 2:32, the flashlight closest to us turned on as if agreeing to it.
  • We asked if they could turn the light back off, and at 2:57, it shut off.
  • The flashlight nearest us turned back on at 4:30, so we asked if they could run over to the rocking chair and turn on that other flashlight instead. At 4:46, the flashlight near us shut off, and the flashlight by the rocking chair jumped on.

  • The flashlight by the rocking chair jumped on at 3:58 after we asked if they could turn the other light on.
  • The other light next to us also turned on at 4:05.
  • As we attempted to get them to turn both lights off, the flashlight by the rocking chair shut off at 4:30. Since the other, closer light did not shut off, we told them they’re making us sad by not shutting it off, and at 5:00, it finally shut off.
  • We explained to them that we’re getting bored of the light game, in hopes of coaxing them to speak with us, the closer flashlight turned on at 5:18.
  • Odd words of “Kite” and “This” were produced by the Ovilus at 5:40 followed by the light shutting back off at 5:50.

  • We slowed down and took a short break from the devices and focused our energy into a pendulum here.
  • As we began, the pendulum started to move side to side at 9:10.
  • The pendulum then changed direction and swung back and forth at 9:20.
  • We asked if it was them moving the pendulum that they swung in the opposite direction, like they did the first time. At 9:50, the pendulum moved side to side.
  • As we proceeded, we asked them to pick a direction which meant yes. At 11:00, the pendulum moved back and forth, toward and away from us.
  • We asked if we were speaking with one of the girls, and at 12:20, the pendulum swung back and forth to signify a yes.
  • The K2 meter spiked at 12:40 and again at 13:16 after we asked if they had been following us all night. The pendulum also moved back and forth  for a yes response.
  • We asked if they were mad that we took their lights away, and at 14:30, the pendulum moved side to side as in a no response followed by the K2 jumping at 14:50.
  • After we asked if they consider us all friends now, the pendulum swung back and forth noting a yes answer at 15:25.
  • Again, we received a yes response as the pendulum swung back and forth at 16:35 after we asked if they were upstairs with us on the Catwalk.
  • There was no movement as we asked when mentioning the pendant upstairs if that meant that they wanted to speak with us. It did move, however, at 18:00, after we asked if they mentioned the pendant because they thought it was pretty.
  • We followed up and asked if they have pretty things, to which the pendulum moved back and forth for a yes at 18:34.
  • It moved back and forth again at 20:00 after we asked if they like the lights on the floor.
  • We were glad to hear they weren’t afraid of us anymore as the pendulum swayed side to side at 20:35.
  • After we asked if Elizabeth enjoyed watching her mother on stage, the pendulum answered with a yes at 21:28.
  • We then asked if she liked to perform as well and received another yes response at 22:10.
  • Then, we attempted to speak with Sara, and after we asked if she was near her mother’s rocking chair, we received a hard side to side no via the pendulum at 22:30.
  • As we gathered this information, we then asked Elizabeth if she was alone. At 23:00, the pendulum moved back and forth marking a yes response.
  • We asked if that was her who had previously touched Dan’s back, and again the pendulum swayed front to back to signify a yes at 23:47.
  • After we asked if that was Elizabeth who was behind Sara earlier, the pendulum moved back and forth again at 24:07.
  • We were asked not to leave via the side to side motion of the pendulum at 25:20 after we asked Elizabeth if she wanted us to leave.

Balcony

Overlooking the beautiful Auditorium, the Balcony is accessible from a stairwell on either the left or right side of the entryway. This area would have provided a grand view of whatever show may have been playing with great seats all throughout this area. In this area, the ushers would have been needed to help their guests to their seats and offer them any refreshments throughout the shows.

This area has been said to be a hotspot for shadows and phantom footsteps. Being that the ushers would have spent some time up here, showing guests to their seats and keeping them happy, it’s no surprise that the likes of long-time usher Everett Miller has been said to wander this area. Off to both sides, where guests would enter at the top of the stairway, shadows have been said to be seen peering out as if curious and, at times, even moving down the steps toward their seats.

Our time spent in this spot mainly accounted for more flashlight activity. We placed three flashlights on the bottom railing. We asked them, at one point, to turn the lights on in specific order. After arguing and not wanting to do this, through the Ovilus, the flashlights did indeed turn on in the order we asked them. We also recorded some verbal communication here, the first through a simple EVP telling us to “Stop” and the second through the Spirit Box greeting us with a “Hi.” During our time here, we did spot some shadows moving in the top of the staircases and even some odd light anomalies moving along with them. At one point, one which prompted us to move downstairs into the Auditorium itself, was when one of us noticed a full figure moving in the doorway right next to the Stage.

Auditorium

The open Auditorium which stretches from the stage to the far back entryway, all with sloped seating, offered visitors full views of the stage and performances as well as easy access to the ushers. The seats were more luxurious for the time, and lights ran along the aisle ways, another newer feature of the time period. Guests and employees alike enjoyed the building and flocked to this area to enjoy the performances on a regular basis, pulling in a plethora of energy throughout time.

Much like the Balcony, tales of paranormal activity in the form of shadows have been said to be seen here, particularly on the end walls along the aisles as if ushers are still performing their duties awaiting for the endless performances to cease. The music and singing, much like that from Backstage, is rumored to occur in this large Auditorium as well as the sounds of chairs opening and closing as if guests are taking their seats in the afterlife.

After spotting an unnatural figure standing in the doorway next to the stage when we were up above in the Balcony, naturally we followed that down and attempted to debunk this or make some type of contact. At first, we set some flashlights and the K2 Meter around, which did activate sporadically, and as we sat down, the one flashlight fell off the seat. This was quickly debunked as we duplicated this motion. The Ovilus did kick out some words, but we do believe these to be more residual, possibly in more relation to the stage itself. After we got tired and joked around about leaving, we snapped a few pictures which just happened to be located in front of the doorway we spotted the figure earlier. Oddly (and luckily) enough, there was a light mist which appeared in that very doorway. The other pictures did not produce this and they were taken back to back to back. As we packed up and prepared to leave, there was an odd sound as if something was thrown at us once more. Our original thought is that it was a seat opening as if someone were sitting down or closing if someone was leaving, but that did not match the sound as we attempted to debunk this – but were ultimately unable to do so.

After we completed a thorough review and analysis of all of the evidence we captured during our time inside the Twin City Opera House, we confidently conclude that the beautiful old opera house holds a significant amount of paranormal entities and multiple energies. Combining our evidence and our personal experiences in the building, we believe that we encountered both intelligent and residual spirits.

With some incitement and research on the paranormal aspects of opera houses and playhouses, along with personal experiences, the massive amounts of energy both expended and absorbed here leave no doubt why there would be energies and spirits that remain in the building long after its peak lifetime. Our thoughts are that these energies are split between residual and intelligent. The residual spirits seem to be still wandering through the auditorium either performing or still enjoying their past lives here. The more common residual entities here seem to be actors still performing based on the footsteps and shuffling sounds almost like that of dancing, ushers still performing their duties, and even stagehands allowing the show to go on, for eternity. The more intelligent variety appear to be aware of their passing and have just been drawn back here due to past tragedies, their family remains, or their love for the building itself. In particular, Elizabeth and her parents all seem to be pulled here, whether for their love for the building or just simply because they all want to remain together where they enjoyed the majority of their family life before Elizabeth’s early and tragic passing.

Even though we were expecting some kind of darker, heavier energy in the Basement, that was never the case during our time here. Our main communication was with Elizabeth, who is very sweet and playful. We also encountered other spirits. Many of which were unnamed or gave us false identifications. Others seemed willing to speak with us and were definitely positive and friendly. This communication came mainly from flashlights and the pendulum, but sometimes we were able to get verbal communication either through the Phasma Box and Spirit Box or simply heard through our recorders. Not once did we ever feel threatened or like any spirits’ presences were malicious, not even when things were thrown at us; we believe those moments were simply to get our attention.

It’s our belief that we captured enough evidence and had personal experiences to prove that the Twin City Opera House is a host to otherworldly presences and entities all through the building, from the Basement up to the Catwalk. Our evidential analysis shows clear and concise proof of both residual and intelligent spirits and entities which have been tied to this historic opera house. The energies manifest in a variety of spirits including the young, 10-year-old, Elizabeth who prefers the opera house as her, and her family’s eternal home. Her parents, Victoria and Robert, have also made their presences known albeit not verbally but in the form of footsteps, dancing, and shadows. There also appears to be the usher, Everett Miller, remaining in the Balcony and Auditorium still performing his duties after his demise.

It was our honor and privilege to spend some time in this historic location and spend some time with our host, Sam. We enjoy helping to preserve history and learn about new towns and areas. This was a perfect example of what we truly enjoy doing, helping preserve this all important history and spend time getting to know both a new town and great people! We hope to return again to spend more time with our friends Sam and Elizabeth. One provides popcorn and the other provides stories from the other side.
